Native  to  the  United States,

the  Blueberry  wasn't  popular  to  eat  until  1916

when  it  finally  went  from  Farm  to  Table.

SOME  THINGS   BLUEBERRIES   CAN  TEACH  US:

1.   BE  WELL  ROUNDED

2.   SOAK  UP  THE  SUN

                     3.   FIND  BEAUTY  IN  SMALL  THINGS

  4.   LIVE  A  FRUITFUL  LIFE

5.   BE  A  GOOD  PICK

                           6.   IT'S  OKAY  TO  BE  A  LITTLE  BLUE

         7.   MAKE  SWEET  MEMORIES

HOMEMADE  ELBERTA  PEACH  CORDIAL

Picture
While  most  everyone  is  thinking

about  apples  in  Fall,

here  in  the  Northeast  the

ELBERTA  PEACHES  have  just

finished  their  peak.

My  five  year  old  tree  produced

better  than  a  hundred  pounds

even  after  being  pruned  hard  in  late  winter.

Picture
Elbertas  are  fabulous

eaten  fresh.  The  stones

pop  right  out  and  their

perfume  fills  the  house.

Still,  they  can

NEVER   EVER

compare  with  a  peach

grown  in  Georgia .

Picture
I 've   Grilled  Elberta's,

Pied Elbertas,  Jammed,

Ice  Creamed  and  Baked

Elbertas,  added  Ginger  to

them  and   even  Chutneyed

Elbertas  ...  no matter what  I did

to  them,  their  flavor   always

vanished  in  the  process !

Picture

I  only  know  of

THREE  THINGS

to  successfully  do

with  Elbertas :

1.  Enjoy  as  many  FRESH

as  you  can  stand

2.  delight  your  neighbors

and  friends  with  bags  of

them ...  and  ...

3.  make

PEACH
CORDIAL

Picture
  • Thinly  slice  peaches  and  drop  into  clean  glass  jars  that  have  fitted  lids.  Adding  one  pit  to  each  jar  adds  a  nutty  flavor.
  • Add  Two or  Three  Tablespoons  of  Wildflower  Honey  to  each  jar.
  • Fill  jars  with  VODKA  and  screw  on  lid.
  • Place  in  darkness  at  room  temperature  for  a  few  months,  shaking  the  jar  occasionally.
  • Strain  through  colander  and  mash  fruit  to  extract  as  much  liquid  as  possible.
  • Allow  remaining  solids  to  settle  on  bottom  and  strain  again  through  coffee  filter.
  • Adjust  sweetness  by  adding  homemade  sugar  syrup  or  more  honey.
  • Drink  straight, or make Peach Sidecars, or pour over ice cream or other desserts.

HERE  IT  IS  !

The  perfectly  thoughtful,  practical  and  reasonably  priced  gift
your  friends  and  relatives  will  be  using  more  often  than  not.

Now,  please  know  that  absolutely

 NO  ONE

asked  me  to  write  this  on  NINJA's  behalf.

This   NINJA  EXPRESS  CHOP   came  last  week

as  a  credit  card  points  trade
and  these  pics  were  taken  in  my  kitchen  today.

You  can  buy  yours  at

TARGET

 K~MART

AMAZON

Originally,  I  wasn't  at  all  happy  about  any  of  the  redemption   items,
but  my  plan  was  to  cash  in  on   accumulated  points  and  cancel  the  card.

I  was  also  disgusted  that  4,000  points  afforded  me  a  mere  $ 20.00  item.
I  certainly  wasn't  expecting  much  from  this  appliance.

Picture

The  beautifully  designed  compact  top
holds  the  motor  with  electrical  cord
and  feels  secure  in  one  hand.

The  Tupperware  style  lid  has  a  capped  hole,
preventing  dirt  from  affecting  the  motor  housing  and
doubling  as  a  food  storage  cover.

The  blade  body  sits  on  a  stainless  steel  pin
and  easily  lifts  straight  up  and  off
without  me  being  concerned  about  slicing  a  finger.

Picture

I  loaded  the  sturdy  plastic  container  with

one  rib  CELERY  cut  into  3  inch  lengths,

the  YELLOW  PEPPER,  a  slice  of  GINGER,

a  quartered  CLEMENTINE  with  a  slice  of  peel,

half  a  TOMATOE  quartered,  some  fresh  CILANTRO,

a  teaspoon  of  BRAGG's  organic  APPLE  CIDER  VINEGAR

and  a  splash  of  EXTRA  VIRGIN  OLIVE  OIL.

I  placed  the  motor  housing  on  top,

which  easily  connected  to  the  blade  through  the  open hole  in  the  lid,

pushed  down  on  the  silver  "switch"   to  the  count  of

ONE  ~  TWO  ~  THREE

If  you  look  close,  you'll  notice

two  pepper  seeds  at  the  bottom  of  the  base.

The  base  stayed  sturdy  and  stationary  as  it  chopped,

 never  slipping  or  sliding  !

. . .  grabbed  the  white  blade  stem  and  lifted  it

straight  up  ~  off  ~  and  out  !

Could've  put  on  the  fitted  storage  lid  and  refridgerated...

But . . .

Picture
© NINJA EXPRESS CHOP ~ Finished ! ~ Undine DeFilippo 2014
It  was  SO  DELICIOUS  . . .

didn't  even  need  salt  . . .

devoured  the  entire  thing !

YUM !!!

Anyway,  I  LOVE  this  thing

and  hope  it  lasts  awhile.

It  seems  like  it  will.

I  hand  painted  this  life  size  Faux  Brick  and  Stone
on  a  Masonite  panel.

For  the  sake  of  realism,  I  added  a  round  seep  hole,
which  bricklayers  install  for  water  drainage.

This  Faux  Oak  Veneer and  6 inch  Knotty  Pine  Board
was  also  hand  painted  by  me ...

  life  size  on  Masonite  Panel.

For  those  who  don't  know,

6 inch  Pine  really  measures  5 1/2  inches  wide.

Picture

I  created  all  the  following  Marble  samples
on  more  Masonite.

These  samples  are also life size and measure

approximately  15  x  15  inches.

CRACKED  ?   HOW  to  REPLACE  CONCRETE  with  PAVERS  !

Picture

I have really enjoyed  reading all  your  comments !
It  has helped me make up my  mind as to what  to  write  about  next.
Your comments have  encouraged  me  to  share  things  of  a  positive  nature.
Anyhow,  I'm  grateful  for  your  comments  and hope  you  understand
that  NONE  of  your  info  is  used  or  sold...

You  can  always  contact  me  via  e-mail...

just  click  on  the  link  at  the  upper  right  corner.

The  winter  of  2013/2014  was  especially  damaging  in  the  Northeast  USA.

The  severely  cold  temperatures  caused  heaving  and  consequent  cracking
of   five  inch  thick  aggregated  concrete  on  my  walkway
and  needed  to  be  replaced !

SO   ?   WHAT's  a  WOMAN  to  do  ?

IF  I  CAN  DO  THIS,
SO  CAN  YOU !!!
Picture©Underground Electric Line ~ Undine DeFilippo 2014
See  that  RED  ARROW  ?

Well...that's  pointing  out  a  LIVE  electric  line
running  underground  from  the  house  to  the  garage.

Hmmm...

GET  TO  WORK !!!
{  here  we  go  again ! }

BUT

DON'T  GET  ZAPPED

OR  WRECK  ANYTHING  HERE !!!

Picture
At  first  I was  careful
cracking  and  lifting  out
the  concrete  around
the  electric  line...

 then  I  became  impatient
 and  used  the
large  sledgehammer
 to  make  it  break   faster.

GO  AHEAD !

JUST  GET  ANGRY
AND  SLAM  IT
HARD !!!

Concrete is

HEAVIER
 than  I  imagined !

Picture
I  dug  out  several  buckets  of  dirt, embedded a few pavers vertically  in  cement
to  keep  my  project  from  shifting...

poured  in  SEVEN
FIFTY pound  bags  of  gravel  which  is  supposed  to  wisk  moisture  away  and  prevent  winter's  heave...

Laid  a  double  thickness  of  landscape  fabric  over  the gravel...

poured  sand  over  that  and  started  to  lay   pavers  on  a  slant  for  rain  water  run  off...

Picture

I used my handy dandy rotary cutter and custom cut pavers to fit odd spaces...

trimmed  the  landscaping  fabric...

and  filled  in  all  the  seams  with  more  sand.

Picture
I know  it's  eclectic...

that  some  would  say,

"ya  shoulda  used

 GRAY

colored pavers  to  match  the  remaining concrete"

... butt ...

y'know what ?

I'm  HAPPY  !

I  did  it  MYSELF  and  it's  works  for  me  !

IF  YOU  CAN   BELIEVE  IT

YOU  CAN  ACHIEVE  IT

so...GO  AHEAD  and  tackle  that  project  of yours

and  know

YOU  CAN  DO  IT  !!!

HOLOCAUST  REMEMBERANCE  DAY  and  SEVEN  GIFTS  { Part One }

Picture
© Perennial Tulip ~ Undine DeFilippo 2014
Today  is

HOLOCAUST  REMEMBERANCE  DAY

It's  fitting  that  the  only  blooming  spring  flower

in  my  garden  this  year

is  this  six  petalled  golden  perennial  tulip

with  bright  red  stripes.

To  me,  this  particular  tulip  represents  the

STAR  of  DAVID

The  red  stripes  represent

the  blood  that  was  spilled

and  the  bloodline  that  carries  on,

despite  atrocities  and  hardships.

It  reminds  me  of  my  own  heritage

and

THE  LORD  JESUS  CHRIST;

how  He  spilled  out  His  very  last  drop  on  Good Friday.

When  He  resurrected  and  showed  Himself

to  the  remaining  frightened  and  hiding  Disciples,

He  instructed  them  to  pray  for

NINE  DAYS

with  the  promise  to  send

THE  HOLY  GHOST

who  would  enlighten  them  with

SEVEN  GIFTS.

That  prayer  is  a  powerful  plea

for  the  LIGHT  and  STRENGTH  and

LOVE

needed  by  every  person.

If  you'd  like  to  know  what  that  prayer  is

and  what  the  SEVEN  GIFTS  are

please  visit  this  website  next  week.

Your  comments  are  always  welcome.

HOW  TO  BE  a  LION  in  WINTER

TALK   HAPPINESS.

The world is sad enough

without  your  woes.

NO  path

is  wholly  rough;

Picture© Icicles in the Sun
Look  for  the  places

that  are  smooth  and  clear,

and  SPEAK  of  THOSE,

to  rest  the  weary  ear

of  Earth,

so  hurt  by

one  continuous  strain

of  human  discontent

and

grief  and  pain.

Picture© Dripping Icicle
TALK  FAITH.

The  world  is  better  off
without
your  uttered
ignorance
and
morbid  doubt.

If  you  have  faith

in  GOD,

or  man,  or  self,

SAY  SO.

If  not,   push  back
upon  the  shelf  of  silence

ALL   your   thoughts,
till   faith  shall  come;

No  one  will  grieve
because
your  lips  are  dumb.

Picture© Fresh Snow on Hemlocks
TALK   HEALTH.

The dreary
never changing tale
of
mortal maladies
is
worn and stale.

You cannot charm,
or interest,
or please
by harping on
that minor chord,
disease.

Say you are well,
or
all is well with you,

and

GOD shall hear
your words

and make them true.
